Regular Events & Workshops

Brown Bag Writing Practice Group 12 - 1 PM Every Tuesday $5
Given prompts, practice all types of writing free from editing or critique. Contact Jill Hall at jillghall@aol.com for additional information.
Crochet Club 12:00 noon - 2 PM 2nd and 4th Sundays 11 & 25 November 2007 $10
Want to learn to crochet, but don't need another scarf? Come every session to build your skills, or drop in occasionally to learn a new stitch. We'll work on samplers (including granny squares) to learn a different stitch or technique at each meeting. These squares can be used to make a purse, afghan, pillow... OK, even a scarf...I won't tell. They'll even stand alone as wash or dishclothes or other small useful items. Drop in and get hooked! And the rules: Not too many. This is a drop-in class. Although a more relaxed version of instruction, please do not expect individual project assistance. I will be happy to schedule a private instruction appointment with you for your own projects! (Instructor Melody Hufford)
Knit Salon 6:30 - 9 PM First & Third Thursdays 1 & 15 November 2007 FREE
Drop in and join fellow knitters and crocheters for an evening of creativity in the cozy atmosphere of The Grove. No instructions offered, but yarn selection advice is available.
Open Mic 7 - 9 PM Friday 2 November 2007
San Diego Writer's Ink presents First Fridays Open Mic for Prose Writers, hosted by Amy Wallen. Bring 3 minutes of prose to read aloud to peers and future readers in a supportive, relaxed atmosphere. For more info, contact amylizwrites@hotmail.com

Basic Sock Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 November: 11 AM - 3 PM $60 for 2 sessions
In class number one, you will learn how to start at the toe and increase to work in rounds. In class two, learn how to turn the heel. (Instructor David Kraft) Materials: Sock yarn and double-pointed needles in the gauge recommended by the yarn manufacturer. Skill Level: Intermediate
Beginner's Scarf Wednesdays 7 & 14 November: 6:30 - 9:00 PM or Saturdays 3 & 10 November: 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM $40 for 2 sessions
If you haven't learned yet, it's time! Class One: we'll teach you to cast on and knit. Class Two: return to complete your scarf and fringe it if you wish. Wear it home! Christmas Stocking Sunday 11 November: 1 AM - 3 PM $25
Whip up this traditional Christmas stocking as a good way to learn sock basics and working with double pointed needles. Done in jumbo yarn on jumbo needles, this stocking goes amazingly fast (about 1.5 sts = 1"!) We'll be knitting it from the toe up, so all the shaping will be done in class. Materials: 1 skein each of Twinkle Soft Chunky in "Crimson" & in "White"; 1 skein Twinkle Kid Mohair in "White"; 1 set each sizes US #15 & #17 double-pointed needles; tapestry needle. (Instructor David Kraft) Skill Level: Intermediate
Feather & Fan Sunday 11 November: 1 AM - 4 PM $25
Learn the beautiful yet simple Fan & Feather stitch composed of three rows of stockinette stitch and only one row of pattern. Depending on your yarn weight, you can create a scarf, shawl, or afghan! Materials: uniformly textured yarn in any weight; compatible needles; yarn cutter. (Instructor David Kraft) Skill Level: Intermediate
Half Dome Hat Sunday 25 November: 11 AM - 1 PM $25
Pattern from Knitty.com! For those knitters wishing to learn how to shape and knit with double pointed needles, these soft tailored caps of Aran weight yarn are terrific. Materials available for purchase: Aran weight yarn and compatible needles as specified in pattern, tapestry needle; bring a tape measure, calculator, paper, pencil. (Instructor Dave Kraft) Skill Level: Easy/Intermediate (Prerequisite: knit and purl with ease)
House Hat Sunday 18 November: 12 noon - 2 PM $20
Learn to knit a simple beanie in the colors of your favorite Hogwarts House, using the pattern from Alison Hansel's book Charmed Knits. If you wish, you can donate the hat to the Warm Woolies charity. Materials available for purchase: yarn, needles, yarn cutters/scissors. (Instructor Barbara Kukuchek) Skill Level: Easy (Prerequisite: knit and purl with ease)
PMC Pendant Sunday 4 November: 12 noon - 4:00 PM $115 (includes materials & use of tools)
If you haven't seen our collection of Precious Metal Clay pendants and earrings, you must stop by. PMC looks a lot like sterling silver, except it is brighter and more malleable so that you can create incredibly interesting shapes, imprints, and more! Learn the history and origins of PMC in this class while you complete your own pendant. Taught by our resident artisan jewelers, this class will introduce you to a whole new world in jewelry making. No experience necessary. (Instructors Carol Brown & Bea Barabas) Skill Level: Beginner
Twinkle Aspen Hat 1 - 3 PM Saturday 10 September: $25
This hat is featured on page 145 in Wenlan Chia's Twinkle's Big City Knits and knit from "Soft Chunky". Every once in a while a new yarn comes along that makes your heart beat fast and (perhaps embarassing to admit) your mouth water. This 100% roving-type virgin merino is IT this year and we're pleased to carry a broad array of colors. Materials available for puurchase: Twinkle's Big City Knits (20% discount for pre-registrants), US #19 (12.75 mm) 16" circular knitting needles OR one set of US #19 (12.75 mm) double pointed needles (Instructor Susan Wells) Skill Level: Easy
